How I built my first Side project? My Experience and thought process
My experience with my first ever side project - SelfSchool.me
We always have ideas, don’t we?
When I see something and spend some time observing, I often get to thinking about “Is there a product(website/app) that does X?“
Let me tell you how I got the idea for SelfSchool.me and how I built and launched it out in a week (a website where I have aggregated all free YouTube courses that I have learned for the last 5 years).
The day before I started planning SelfSchool.me, I had a call with one of my old friends who was asking me to recommend some good Marketing courses for him.
I dug into my bookmarks and found some great courses that I had followed and this took about 30 minutes of my time.
I started thinking that there are courses for everything on YouTube but still a lot of people aren’t able to discover them at a single place where they can search and pick free courses.
One other thing here was that not everyone would have a friend like me who can dig and share some best courses. (Considering I am a generalist)
This was how I got the idea for this project.
Once we get an idea for a product that we can build it out, often we back off due to various resource constraints.
These days we have got a ton of no-code tools - I used a simple no-code tool that uses Airtable as a database to make a listing website of all the free courses.
To do the same I had used - Softr
The idea is to not complicate things. Just build out the bare minimum of the product and use the simplest means to build it out.
This is how my thought process was towards building my first side project.🚀 I hope this serves as an inspiration for you to build out something that you have in your mind.
