The concept of an Idea Journal 🧾
The best ways to keep track of your startup ideas and refer back to them sometime in the future
I have always been curious about new products in the market. I spend a ton of time on ProductHunt and Startup news to learn what kinds of products and ideas are prevailing in the market.
I am sure that some of you might have a very similar thought process and idealogy.
Often we get random ideas that can be potential startups.
I had a conversation with a friend who told me that he had an idea similar to Paytm before Paytm existed, but he wasn’t sure about how he can take it further so he forgot about it.
It was this conversation that sparked to me that I should start to journal my ideas so that If I cant start working on some ideas right away then I can put them onto my Idea Journal.
Here’s how my Idea journal looks like 👇
I add all kinds of things.
Sometimes I just add a title and leave it.
Sometimes I spend around 30 min and write about it and add screenshots.
I just leave it to how much I can think about it.
Rules of my Idea journal:
Add ideas to the journal right away when I get them
Drop some research, screenshots that show demand - ex. Twitter tweet where someone is in look for a similar product
Keep on building new ideas
Revisit old ideas and add more to them in case you come across something similar to some idea in your list.
Regularly revisit and see if you can build or add more things to your journal.
This journal would become a thought-provoking and expressive place where you can put your ideas in a productive manner.
This is how I have used my idea journal. I have just started and presently have about 33 ideas on my idea journal.
